1. Introduction
The Magnet Program , initiated in 1992, is devoted specifically to support
industrial consortia, where pre-competitive generic technologies are being
developed by cooperation of industry and academy, aimed primarily for future
export of products. This special government program extends its support
at 2/3 of development budget to the industries and up to 80% of that to
the academy. 15 consortia are presently active in a variety of technological
sectors of which only CONSOLAR, is devoted to the energy field, as yet.
CONSOLAR was established formally as a limited company, in July 1995, with
a multi-year budget of 20 M$, of which 6 M$ have been already used. Four
industries and three academic institutes have been collaborating in developing
concentrated solar energy technologies, which had been initially developed
& proven viable by the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS).
